Jenny Yang, MD

Psychiatrist in NYC

Dr. Jenny Yang is a psychiatrist based in New York City. She graduated with honors from Cornell University, where she studied Biochemical Nutritional Sciences and Business. She earned her medical degree from Stony Brook School of Medicine. Dr. Yang is currently completing her final year of psychiatry residency at Mount Sinai Hospital, where she cares for adults with a broad range of psychiatric conditions, including anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, sleep disorders, and complex trauma. She is also training in cutting-edge emerging treatments, including ketamine-assisted therapy.

Throughout her training, Dr. Yang pursued research spanning neuroscience, maternal-fetal health, and cross-cultural psychology. She conducted brain cognition research at the UCLA Brain Research Institute, studied complicated pregnancy outcomes at Stony Brook, and published work in cross-cultural narrative psychology examining how Western and Eastern storytelling shapes identity, family systems, and intergenerational experiences. At Mount Sinai Hospital, Dr. Yang is currently involved in precision psychiatry research to enable earlier detection, accurate diagnosis, and personalized treatments for mental health disorders.

My Philosophy

When someone is rescued from their burning house, we naturally focus on the burns we can see. We treat the wounds, prevent infection, and help the body heal. But I also think about the injuries that aren’t visible—the nightmares after the fire, the guilt of accidentally leaving the stove on, the grief of losing a childhood home, the treasured artwork reduced to ashes, or the anguish of pleading with firefighters to save a beloved pet. Those invisible wounds deserve care, too.

My approach to psychiatry is integrative and deeply person-centered. While our brains share many biological similarities, every person’s story, relationships, culture, and lived experiences shape how they experience suffering and healing. Emotional pain is never one-size-fits-all, and treatment shouldn’t be either.

I believe healing begins by understanding the whole person—not just a diagnosis. Together, we’ll explore your story with curiosity and compassion, using a personalized combination of medication when appropriate, psychodynamic psychotherapy, evidence-based treatments, and integrative approaches. Along the way, there may even be room for humor, because healing is rarely linear, and moments of lightness can matter just as much as moments of insight.

My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to build a life that feels more meaningful and authentic.

Dr. Yang is committed to fostering an inclusive, affirming, and culturally responsive practice where patients from all backgrounds—including members of the LGBTQ+ community—feel respected, understood, and supported. Her clinical approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in both scientific evidence and genuine human connection.
